Nutiva Organic Extra Virgin Price Review

Nutiva’s Coconut Oil is cold pressed, organic extra virgin coconut oil, with its light taste, nice aroma, and pure white color. Note that any tiny brown specks found at the bottom of Nutiva’s Coconut Oil are from the coconut fiber and are indigenous to extra virgin coconut oil. It’s deliciously healthy cooking oil. Better than butter and are USDA Organic. Unrefined with no trans fats, rich in lauric acid.

In spite of the marketing hype, coconut oil brands inside each group (virgin, refined, hydrogenated) are alike. I should identify the qualities I look for in a coconut oil: I want a coconut oil with a rich coconut aroma and taste, maximum nutrition, and minimal processing. For these reasons, I generally choose an organic, extra virgin, cold pressed oil.

I’m happy that this Nutiva Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil gives these qualities with an easy to find “packed on” and “best before” date. The jars I ordered in late January 2011 were filled on September 13, 2010, and the “best before” date is September 13, 2012. Stored properly (cool, black place, no refrigeration needed), this nutrient dense oil stays new for two years. It smells and tastes great coconutty and somewhat sweet.

According to Nutiva, no hexane can be used in the processing of this oil. Hexane is a petroleum derived solvent used in all types of industrial applications, from shoe manufacturing to roofing. Interestingly, because hexane’s main molecular structure is carbon, it may be passed off as “organic.” Do a little research; “cold pressed,” “organic,” AND “hexane free” are key considerations when selecting your coconut oil for nutrition reasons.

I’m not as happy with the plastic jars. In fact, I took off a star consequently of the plastic packaging. I feel that a quality organic oil should be stored in a glass jar, and ideally a black one to decrease oxidation. I have really selected coconut oils exactly because they come in glass jars, and may bypassed this product if I had not found it on sale at a great price. I put this info in the review to aid those of you who need a coconut oil in a glass jar. Of course, at this bigger size, you may favor a plastic jar to eliminate many of the weight, but for storage reasons, glass may be best.

I totally love it. I just eat it right out of the jar, some number of tablespoonfuls a day, for the health and weight loss benefits. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

I’ve read through the reviews and just wanted to clarify many things with real facts for those who are interested. Saturated fat, like coconut oil, butter, lard, tallow, etc., isn’t only NOT harmful, but it’s ESSENTIAL for good health and need not and shouldn’t be restricted in quantity as the government suggests. It doesn’t clog arteries that is a lie that was propagated for the last 60 years and thankfully there are practitioners with the courage and common sense to speak the truth. I’m a dentist, intimately involved in nutrition, and I know what I am talking about.

The most of coconut oil is medium chain triglycerides which are broken down quickly by the liver for energy. It raises metabolic rate, promoting weight loss, and it does work. But you may want to know that butter is healthy, too, and has many vital long chain fatty acids, and it, too, will advertise weight loss. Heavy cream is generally butter before it is been churned. So surely eat coconut oil it has countless health benefits but eat all your saturated fats, as well as lots of fatty, red meat.

Coconut oil won’t oxidize and go rancid. You may be able to leave it on the counter most likely for many years. So do not worry about purchasing too much. And for the same reason, a black jar isn’t needed. Know that liquid seed and nut oils, and fish oil, will go rancid, due to high unsaturated content. These oils oxidize quickly and form free radicals. They’re a big causal factor in virtually all the prevalent illnesses and illnesses from which people suffer.

And to those complaining of the plastic jar, most of us, particularly those who use many of coconut oil, could just as soon accept the “horrifying” risks of plastic jars rather than paying a fortune for shipping glass jars. We do not all have extra bags of cash lying around.

A friend turned me on to the benefits of coconut oil so I tried it out. I use it in stir fry, curry and fried rice. It gives the food a light coconut flavor. I believe, it’s most suited to baking. I replacement coconut oil whenever the recipe calls for butter, vegetable oil (microwave the coconut oil to liquefy) or shortening. I have used it to bake cookies, muffins, bread, sweet dinner rolls, etc. Everything comes out moist and delicious, with no worry about trans fats. I certainly recommend this product.
